jDM 3 — Release Notes

jDM 3 refined the foundation of macOS download management with smarter automation, streamlined organization, and enhanced usability. This release introduced the Download Scheduler for automated start and stop times, redesigned Download Categories with customizable file types and locations, and added new sorting and prioritization controls for managing downloads efficiently. The Main Window, Inspector, and New Task interfaces were also improved for smoother navigation and better workflow. Together, these updates made jDM 3 faster, more intuitive, and ready for the next generation of performance upgrades in version 4.

jDM 3.0

jDM 3.0 introduces a powerful download scheduler, improved download sorting, a redesigned categories manager, and a smoother experience across the main window and inspector.

Preferences

  • Introduced a new Scheduler pane to automate downloads with flexible scheduling options:
    • Set Start and Stop times for downloads — ideal for off-peak hours or overnight automation.
    • Choose between Daily or One-time schedules.
    • Automatically start or stop all marked downloads at scheduled times.
  • Redesigned Download Categories interface:
    • Categories are now listed in a table view with details panel on the side.
    • Users can add, remove, rename categories and specify file types and target directories for each.
    • Improved localization and usability of directory and file-type management.

Main Window

  • Added ability to sort downloads by order of addition, filename, size, status, or last try date. Sorting can be controlled via the View menu or by clicking table column headers.
  • Introduced drag & drop support for files directly from jDM to Finder or other apps.
  • Improved reliability of actions such as resume, pause, and status updates during downloads.
  • Improved multiple-selection support to adjust download priority via context menu.
  • Removed Change Address context menu option. Download URLs can now be modified through the Inspector.
  • Removed unnecessary warning dialogs shown during “Redownload” operations.
  • Fixed an issue where the text field in “Add New Download” sheet did not automatically focus when the sheet appeared.

Inspector

  • Improved file management — users can now rename and move files in a single step.
  • Fixed an issue where changing a download’s name while in paused or error state did not work properly.

New Task

  • Redesigned “New Task” window, now shows an URL field at the top for clarity.
  • Added a retry button for failed requests, allowing users to quickly attempt to reload or correct the request before starting the download.

Downloader

  • Added support for cookies-based authentication to improve compatibility with websites requiring login or session persistence.
  • Improved stability and responsiveness when pausing or resuming downloads, especially when maximum active downloads are changed in Preferences.

Application

  • Improved localization and translation coverage throughout the app.
  • Minor internal optimizations and stability enhancements.
