jEditor 2 — Release Notes

October 2015 - January 2017

jEditor 2 introduced a refined foundation for customization and usability. The update delivered a dedicated Preferences window with enhanced control over editor behavior, fonts, and syntax colors. It expanded support for opening and saving files with any extension, introduced syntax highlighting for major programming languages, and added conveniences like line numbers and drag-and-drop file opening. Together, versions 2.0 and 2.1 made jEditor more adaptable to developer workflows while keeping its lightweight design and performance focus.

Preferences

  • Introduced a new Preferences window with per-editor options to automatically show or hide rulers when opening a document.
  • Added the ability to display HTML and RTF files as either formatted rich text or plain text.
  • Introduced default editor settings for spell checking, grammar checking, automatic correction, smart links, smart quotes, smart dashes, and text replacement.
  • Added options to configure default font and encoding type for plain-text files.

Other

  • jEditor can now open text files with any file extension.
  • Added support for saving files with custom extensions when using the “All Files” option in the save panel.
